The SEURAT architecture is designed to support thousands of users without the need for high-end software application servers.
Typical client-server systems concentrate activity in a high-transaction software application server. This model is often naively applied to bioinformatics applications. Experience has shown that to be a mistake due to the large amount of data and data-model complexity. Bioinformatics applications tend to grind those high-end servers to a crawl.
The SEURAT platform instead makes use of a distributed computing model that decentralizes much of the data modeling to the client desktops rather than concentrating it in a server bottleneck. The rich client is easily installed via from the web.
A Seurat server only requires 256 megabytes of memory for a typical installation that supports 50 to 80 users
Have Multiple Databases?
SEURAT is designed for a multi-database environment. Simply map each new database and you can search information for one, some or all databases as well as see what kind of information is available in each. These databases can be a mix of different database schemas and also be from any mix vendors (one could be Oracle, another MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)

Do you work with CROs who may be using different databases and/or different identifiers for the same compounds? SEURAT can handle it.
